Description
A view of Eddystone Lighthouse; ships on the sea; rocks in the foreground and a rocky shore in the distance. Etched on a plaque on the upper part of the lighthouse 'ANNO DOM: 1699' and on a plaque on the bottom of the lighthouse 'Hanc PHARON Designavit et struxit H. WINSTANLEY de LITTLEBURY In Com. ESSEX Genr. Anno Dom 1699'. An advertisement within an etched book in the upper right-hand corner which describes the lighthouse. A dedication surrounded by the figures and symbols of Britannia, Neptune and Hermes in the upper left-hand corner which reads: 'To His Royal Highness ye Prince Lord High ADMIRAL of England &c. This Draught of the Light House on ye Edystone is humbly presented Great Sr by your most Obedient Servant Hen. Winstanley'. At the upper centre 'A Narrative of the Building' in which Winstanley describes his four years of work on the building. A 'Description of ye Light-House' lettered A-T on the right-hand side below the advertisement.
