Braham and Hager date this drawing and its companion (no. 37) 'from the reign of Alexander VII (1655-67)' and suggest a possible connection with a competition for the renovation of the portico of the church mentioned in Valesio's Diary. The drawing is annotated on the verso in ink 'facciata nuova di S. Maria in Trastevere da farsi'.
