Gideon Richard Hand (born around 1661- died 1721) was a baker who is credited with the invention of the Chelsea Bun. His shop was at Jew's Row, Chelsea. There is a trade card for Hand's bakery at the Museum of London, dated 1718, object no. 34.4. Hand was originally buried at Chelsea Old Church but his coffin and skeleton were moved to the Wellcome Collection. Hand's coffin bore a plate inscription which read
