- View of Lisbon from the East, with men, women and children eating watermelon, drinking and listening to musicians play bagpipes, castanets, and drums while sailors load and unload barges in the foreground, men carry baskets of bread and large cauldrons, and a priest on a carriage leaves the palace on the left; children playing, fishermen mending nets, women doing laundry, Lisbon harbour and town in the background.

- The palace on the left, now called Pala_cio Burnay, was also known as Pala_cio dos Patriarcas. In the late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-centuries, it was used as a summer residence by the Bishop of Lisbon.
