Signed with initials at bottom right and annotated in pencil on verso: 'Figures on the Banks of the River as viewing the Ambassador's Barges &c'. Pasted on mount with washlines.

- Described as 'Companion to [Maps 8.Tab.C.8.1.]. This drawing exhibits a group of figures collected together near a temple on the bank of a river' in manuscript notes bound with the drawings. Old record titled 'A colored view of figures on the banks of the river Peiho, [in Hebei Province], as viewing the Ambassador, barges, etc.; drawn by W. Alexander'. Many views in this series were reproduced in Sir George Staunton's Narrative of the Embassy, published in 1797.
