- Additional information
- Published as part of a series of twenty 'Views in and around Naples' (see Maps 7.Tab.60.). Production details cropped but pieces of paper annotated in ink: 'P. Sandby fecit / View of the Isles of Proscita, Ischia and Baia / Published by Sandby and Robertson 1777 / Fabris pinx' pasted on support page. As Abbey noted, the series of twenty-four sepia aquatints that appeared between 1777 and 1782 might not have been originally intended as a set. The same author considers that, although the plates are linked together by their subject matter ('views in and near Naples'), by their association to Pietro Fabris as author of the original paintings and by the fact 'that they were all engraved either by Robertson or Sandby, while many of them were published by the two jointly', related plates could have been added to an initial collection of sixteen 'Views in Naples and other parts of Italy' by Sandby.
