- Figures gather on the banks of a river, with women and children on the left and six soldiers standing under a tree on the right; a man walks by the side of a wall decorated with the figure of a dragon that links a turret, on top of which a soldier strikes a gong with a mallet, to a small shrine, with man, horse and women holding babies standing outside in the background. Signed with initials at bottom right and annotated in pencil on verso: 'A Military Post. Portraits of the Soldiers, Joss house &c &c. Oct. 19 1793'. Pasted on mount with washlines.

- Described as 'View of a small military Post with soldiers drawn outin compliment to the Embassador. On the top of a small Castle a soldier is seen beating a Gongue (a brazen Instrument so called by Europeans) to give notice of the Embassador's approach' in manuscript notes bound with the drawings. Engraved in Staunton, Atlas, No. 17.
