- Description
- On the right is the wall of Hyde Park, above which appear a few houses in Park Lane. Oxford Street recedes diagonally to the left beyond the turnpike. A coroneted travelling chaise with four galloping horses and two postilions advances towards the spectator. Beside it is a two-wheeled cart in which three country people are crowded. Beggars (left) limp towards the gate, one on crutches. A young woman on the arm of an elderly man looks over her shoulder at a handsome officer in regimentals. In the shadow of the wall (right) a recruiting sergeant marches at the head of three shambling recruits.
