Additional information
New Hall in Boreham, Essex, was called Beaulieu by King Henry VIII. It was acquired by the first Duke of Albermarle in 1660 who lived there until his death in 1669. The second Duke died in 1688 and his wife inherited the hall. She married the first Duke of Montagu. The Montagus sold New Hall in 1713 to Benjamin Hoare. He sold the Hall in 1737 to John Olmius, first Lord Waltham who demolished part of the sixteenth century building, leaving just the north range. This drawing probably dates from about 1730 when Hoare was building the nearby Boreham House, or from 1737 when Olmius was undertaking extensive renovation to the Hall.
