- This drawing was in the collection of Dr Richard Mead who died in 1754. The relief was found in 1739 and not 1741 as stated on the drawing. Henry Potts did not necessarily own the relief as there is some suggestion that he owned a cast of it rather than the original (see Jackson, Ralph. 'The Chester Gladiator Rediscovered'). It is not clear if this drawing is based on the etching in 'Vetvsta monvmenta' of it was the source drawing for the etching, an example of which is at Maps K.Top.9.8.p.
