- Description
- The interior of the Chapel Royal with George III and Charlotte watching from the royal box as the poor line up to receive charity; men on the left and women on the right; members of the congregation in pews on the right and the choir on the left. Bears a watermark 'D & C Blau'. Signed 'S.H. Grimm ad nat del' in the lower right-hand corner. This watercolour contains an area of overpainting: a hunched female figure has been painted over with a figure in a red cloak whose back is to the viewer. This change is reflected in the 1777 print by Basire. This view and its pendant, Maps K.Top.26.5.t., were bequeathed to King George III in 1810 by Sir Richard Kaye, who commissioned Grimm to paint the scenes.
