The Bocardo jail in Oxford was demolished in 1771 to make way for improvements to the city. John Gwynn was the Paving Commission's surveyor and made extensive changes to the layout of the city. This drawing depicts widened roads overlaid on a plan of the Bocardo and other old buildings which were ultimately demolished to make way for wider streets.
