Chepstow Castle on the right-hand side; a bride and river to the left; mountains in the distance. Inscribed 'Chepstow Castle from Mr Gilpin' in black ink on verso. Inscribed 'Chepstow Castle' in pencil above image. Birchbark mounted on wove paper which bears a Pro Patria watermark. Together with a title page:

Additional information
This group of birchbark drawings at Maps K.Top.119.15. were given to King George III by the Simcoes in October 1796. Elizabeth Simcoe drew on the darker interior of the birchbark rather than the paler exterior. It is probable that this set was conceived of and made as a group possibly with the intention of presenting them to George III, rather than as a series of sketches made at differing points during the Simcoe
