- View of an immense fortress on a flat mountain top, encircled by bastioned walls, with a town sheltering below, other houses in the trees to left and a temple with twin tall narrow towers on the far right, seen from the plain with two soldiers walking away from the viewer in the left foreground and three Indians further off to right. Inscribed with title and date in black ink below image.

- The title of this work has often been misinterpreted to mean that it was drawn by Major William Popham. The title refers to the fall of the fort to the British during the first Maratha War when Captain William Popham led 1200 sepoys against it in a surprise assault on 3 August 1780.
